Scope of Course

The present course is the last of six one-week courses given as part of the NANOCEM MC-RTN. The objective of this fifth course is to introduce the participant to sustainability related topics, especially with focus on the cement industry.

•   The society of tomorrow
•  Innovation
•  Driving forces for innovation in the cement and concrete industry
•  Case stories of implemented innovations
•  Case stories of innovation project which were stopped during the project period
•  Intellectual property rights
•  Patenting

Social activities during the course are planned to promote a stimulating study atmosphere.

Work Load

The estimated work load corresponds to 1 ECTS points, including approximately 18 hours of contact and an individual report after the course.
Study Materials Notes will be provided before the course.

Evaluation

In order to get the credits, the participants will present a written report, using the course content in connection with their research area.

Participants

The participants are expected to have a basic knowledge of concrete technology. All lectures will be given in English.

Costs

The registration fee of € 500.- for the entire course will be collected from industrial participants. A reduced fee of € 250.- will be charged to students, except MC-RTN students from whom no fee is required for Course 6. This fee covers the admission to the lectures and visits, all course materials, refreshments during the coffee breaks, 3 lunches. The participants will be responsible for covering separately the expenses of their travel, accommodation and the meals not mentioned above.

Accommodation

Provisional reservations for participants have been made at the UNA Hotel Bergamo where the meeting will be held. Price per person and night: 110.00 €, accommodation, breakfast and VAT included. Rooms may be shared by two persons to a price per person and night at 65.00 €, accommodation, breakfast and VAT included.

Cancellations fees will not be required before February 28, 2009.
From March 1 to 20, cancellation fees are 50% of the room price for the entire stay.
From 21 of March the cancellation fee is 100% on all costs.

Participants have to make their own hotel reservation directly to the hotel.
