This lecture will present an overview of the requirement for Outreach to the General Public, of the ways that this can be accomplished and of the some of the common pitfalls. In particular, emphasis will be placed on successful working with the media for mutual benefit. The talk will include a series of personal anecdotes to illustrate the story and instruction on how best to write a press release.

Preparing a successful poster / talk / web-page / press-release

The format for this session will be a series of short Master-Classes based on the prior work of TRANSCEND students. In a positive and supportive atmosphere, the lecturer will provide a careful critique of student academic posters from the viewpoint of the layman and talk through with the students how best these can be adapted into a very different format for a very different audience.
